For 2017
JEE-MAINS
will be the National
Level Engineering Entrance exam for admission to almost all the Engineering colleges in India.
The JEE MAINS shall be the solitary criteria for admission into the 30 NITs, 5 IIITs, DA-IICT, IIST, DCE etc.
Besides, there is a 15% All Inda JEE MAINS quota into every unaided Engineering college in India.
Thus, for example, a student can secure admission into a reputed Pune Engineering college like PICT, VIT, MIT, SIT etc.
via the 15% JEE MAINS quota.
The syllabi of the JEE MAINS exam is the combined Std.11 + 12 CBSE syllabi.
The JEE MAINS is conducted by CBSE and the exam paper is jointly set by the IITs & CBSE.
The JEE MAINS has an Objective questions-based exam pattern of 90 questions (30 each in PCM) and 360 marks.
Each question has four choices and only one choice is correct. If a student answers a question correctly, 4 marks
are awarded and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrectly attempted question. No marks awarded or deducted for not attempting the question.
Out of the 20 lakhs students appearing for JEE MAINS every year, 1.5 lakh students will be selected to appear for JEE ADVANCED exam.
The cut-off for qualifying into JEE ADVANCED is about 30-35% marks. Thus, in 2014 a score of 110+ out of 360 marks was sufficient for
qualifying into JEE ADVANCED for OPEN category students. A score of 180+ is sufficient to secure admission into the Top NITs in the
branch of your choice. A score of 150+ is good enough to secure admission in the other National colleges of repute like DCE, IIIT, DA-IICT etc.
