The BITSAT examination was launched from 2005 onwards by the authorities of
the Birla Institutes of Technology, Pilani (BITS, Pilani).
BITSAT is an Online entrance exam after XII Boards for admission into the undergraduate courses
for Engineering and Science streams of the BITS, Pilani at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.
There are altogether 1800 seats and no reservations.
The BITSAT exam contains 150 questions from five subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics,
English and Logical Reasoning. The break-up is as under :
Mathematics – 45
Physics –
40
Chemistry – 40
English –
15
Logical Reasoning – 10
Each correctly
attempted question gives 3 marks to the candidate and an incorrectly attempted
question results in the deduction of 1 mark. No marks are added or deducted
for not attempting the question. Thus, the BITSAT is out of 450 marks.
The qualifying
criterion for BITSAT is that the candidate must secure atleast 75% marks in
PCM group and not less than 60% in either of the subjects of Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics.
A score of 260 and above out of 450 is usually sufficient to secure admission into one of the 3 BITS
campuses by the 4th round (iteration) of admission.
The BITSAT is conducted in the months of April-June after XII Boards on a pre-appointed day for a particular candidate.
The question paper on a given day is the same – however it is not necessarily the case for candidates appearing for the exam on different days.
The BITSAT is conducted in authorized centers which are located in select cities in India.
